The apps page description says the i686 linux app is for 32 bit linux computers, however the program itself is a 64 bit program. Is the linux program for this project intended only to be used on 64 bit platforms, or will there be a 32 bit linux program for this project?

The application page mentions "Linux running on an Intel x86-compatible CPU". Nowhere does it state that the application is 64 bit, or that it is only for 32-bit computers. It DOES say however that it makes no sense crunching this project on ARM hardware, or when running e.g. FreeBSD on a Intel x86-compatible CPU.

if you run file or readelf it would indicate that it is a 64 bit program. but since you are running a windows computer, that would be irrelevant to you.

why wouldn't it make sense to try and crunch a 32 bit linux program on FreeBSD? i run several 32 bit linux programs for BOINC projects all the time.

climate prediction, collatz conjecture, asteroids, distributed data mining, edges, einstein, leiden classical, LHC, malariacontrol, prime grid, rosetta, world community grid, yoyo, just to name a few.

you have a windows computer. do you even know anything about linux or BSD?

I have some 20 computers of different makes. I run Van der Waerden at the moment on a Windows machine.

I am compiling this on a 32-bit computer. Thanks for your patience.

You do not need to compile a program on account of me... I will gladly switch over to Windows. I just wasn't sure if the program was meant to be run on a 32 bit or 64 bit linux box.

No, you don't have to switch. I'm registering 4 32-bit computers and I thought I'd save time and effort for users and I.

Are you compiling an ARM app as well?
