1) Message boards : Number crunching : Validator problem? (Message 132)
Posted 2 Apr 2015 by zombie67 [MM]
Hi Daniel,

Until this particular issue is resolved, can you please turn on homogenous redundancy? This will at least prevent a linux machine trying to validate against a windows machine, resulting in a race with the winner going to a random third machine.

http://www.123numbers.org/workunit.php?wuid=549647

FWIW, the only difference here is the 5th line of the stderr. For windows machines:

0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,

For linux machines:

140733343532288,7067552,7067440,7067456,0,0,0,0,0,

Which is correct in this example?

Mine have all recently validated... I think, and I am on Windows 8

Not mine. Again, many THOUSANDS of tasks marked invalid. Across everyone, probably hundreds of thousands of tasks now.

ADMIN: Please comment.

It looks like tasks crunched by both windows and linux will not validate together. Which means if the the third machine is windows, the linux machine loses out. And vice versa. Until this gets resolved, can homogeneous redundancy please be turned on?

Bump. We are wasting many many thousands of tasks

Bump again. Status please?

BOINCtasks is showing 1100-1200 mb per task. And maybe it is my imagination, but I think the usage has been growing. It's larger than it was a week ago.

Can we please get an update on the validation situation?

I see the Apps page indicates the Linux App has 0 GigaFLOPS of production at this point. But I've got a farm of Linux servers that have been requesting work and getting none. Is there just no work queued up for Linux hosts?

We are working on this. See the stderr output for instance of http://www.vdwnumbers.org/vdwnumbers/result.php?resultid=1034022. We have gotten an old Windows computer and are trying to reproduce this error.

Yes, I see the stderr output. What about it is unusual or different? It is just a bunch of numbers as far as I can tell. No obvious error messages.

This win7 64 machine has not had a single valid result. What's up?

So far, my two WinXP (32 bit) hosts haven't gotten a single valid result. most get called invalid once a pair of other machines have responded. So I'll guess it's more a 32 bit thing than an XP thing.

I am getting the same, but on only one machine.

Is there a particular requirement for this app? A version of .Net or Java or something?

The extremely short deadlines are causing all the tasks to constantly run in panic mode. So they aren't playing nicely with other projects.

Can the deadlines please be at least a week out for new task production?
